About Us

Who We Are

The Owerri Cultural Association (OCA), Northern California Chapter, is a vibrant community of distinguished men and women from the old Owerri Local Government Area of Nigeria now living in Northern California. We are united by a shared commitment to preserving our cultural heritage, supporting one another, and promoting peace, unity, and progress within our community and the broader society.

OCA is structured into two dynamic groups—OCA Men and OCA Women—comprising accomplished professionals, community leaders, business owners, and entrepreneurs dedicated to cultural preservation, mentorship, empowerment, and service. Together, these groups form a united body committed to advancing OCA’s mission through collaboration, integrity, and community leadership.

OCA Membership Origin

OCA members proudly represent the rich cultural heritage of Owerri. Our community is drawn from the six local government areas that make up the greater Owerri region: Owerri Municipal, Owerri North, Owerri West, Ngor-Okpala, Mbaitoli, and Ikeduru. Together, these origins form the foundation of OCA’s unity, identity, and shared commitment to preserving our traditions and supporting one another.

Our Mission

To preserve and promote the values, language, and traditions of Owerri heritage while fostering cultural exchange, social integration, and community development among members and the wider Northern California community.

Tach initiatives, and community partnerships, OCA Northern California continues to build bridges between generations, communities, and cultures.

Our Objectives

At OCA Northern California, we are guided by four key objectives:

Cultural Exchange and Promotion
We actively promote and share the Owerri and Igbo cultural heritage, language, and values with people of diverse backgrounds across Northern California.

Community Service and Volunteerism
We believe in giving back to the community. Through volunteer programs and charitable initiatives, our members contribute time and resources to support local and global causes—within the limits of our available resources.

Peace and Unity
OCA serves as a bridge for fostering peace, harmony, and unity among members and within the larger community, promoting understanding and collaboration across cultural lines.

Welfare and Support Programs
We operate a life insurance scheme designed to support our members and their families, alongside youth and cultural awareness programs that educate and inspire the next generation about our traditions and values.
